Dr. La'Tesha, LCSW
Dr. La’Tesha is the epitome of academic, philanthropic and social service excellence. This Roselle, New Jersey native has proven to possess the wisdom of the ages and the heart of a self-effacing leader. Dr. La’Tesha has been serving disenfranchised individuals and communities for more than 24 years and believes in helping others transform their thinking to change their lives.
Dr. La'Tesha is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, author, grant -writer, corporate and nonprofit trainer, program facilitator, media personality and serial entrepreneur. Dr. La'Tesha's new children's book, Introducing Carla "Crybaby" Jones is the first in a 5-part series, aimed at eradicating bullying and fostering inclusity for children aged 3-7. Dr. La'Tesha has been featured nationally as a psychoeducational thought leader in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Star Ledger, Thrive Global, The Huffington Post, NBC News 4, and TV One's Fatal Attraction. Dr. La'Tesha's TedX topic: Rejecting Happiness, Cultivating Joy will be filmed in May 2023. Dr. La’Tesha is the President and Founder of Great Joy Counseling and Consulting Services where she and her team of therapists provide innovative, therapeutic psychotherapy & life coaching services to thousands of individuals, couples, families, and groups each year. Dr La'Tesha is also the Executive Director of Great Joy Community Development Corporation, a NJ based nonprofit, aimed at promoting great joy, health and wellness and improved quality of life for disenfranchised people globally. |
Dr. La'Tesha is also the Visionary Creator of Real Melanin Monroe, a vegan cruelty free skin care company that she founded with her teenage daughter to promote healthy skin and hair for BIPOC people. Dr. La'Tesha loves to teach students and train them to be change agents in their communities.
As a professor who has served in the Master of Social Work departments at the University of New England, Rutgers University, the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, and Kean University, Dr. La’Tesha is currently serving as Director, MSW Field Education at Seton Hall University.
Dr. La’Tesha is a philanthropist and has partnered, sponsored, and assisted numerous nonprofit initiatives globally including programs in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Ghana, Mexico and Egypt. She also regularly sponsors three NJ high school students with college or trade school scholarships. In the consultation portion of her business, Dr. La'Tesha has provided notable training and facilitator services to more than 200 nonprofit and for profit organizations, colleges and universities.
Dr. La'Tesha's community service includes a national NASW Committee Board membership position, a Board of Trustees position at Black Girl Health Foundation Inc, a Board of Trustees position at YWCA Union County, a Training and Curriculum Chair position at NJ Association of Black Social and a membership position of the Morris County Chapter of the Links, Inc.
Dr. La'Tesha previously held a PACE Committee Chair position at NASW- NJ and made history as both the first woman and the first Black person to hold the position.
Dr. La'Tesha was also previously the
Board President position at Rz the Flags, a Global Outreach Initiative focused on HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, human trafficking, and Director of Business Development position at Women Operating in Opulence, a nonprofit financial literacy organization for women of color.
Dr. La'Tesha has been the recipient of many honors and awards including the 2022 NASW-NJ Emerging Leader Award.
Dr. La'Tesha's community service includes a national NASW- PACE Committee Board membership position, a Training and Curriculum Chair position at NJ Association of Black Social Workers, and a membership position of the Morris County Chapter of the Links, Inc. Dr. La'Tesha previously held a Board Chair position at Rz the Flags, a Global Outreach Initiative focused on HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, human trafficking, and a Director of Business Development position at Women Operating in Opulence, a nonprofit financial literacy organization for women of color.
Dr. La’Tesha has earned a Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Metropolitan College of New York, a Master's of Social Work from Kean University, and a Ph.D in Christian Counseling and Psychology from Northwestern Seminary. She is also the recipient of an honorary Doctorate of Social Work and is pursuing her Doctorate of Social Work at Simmons University- the first School of Social Work in the nation.
